The Claude Code Essentials Workshop

The terminal tool everyone says you should be using, explained properly - and running on your own project by six

View agenda

What you'll gain

Claude Code, actually installed

Running on your own machine, Mac or Windows, before the first break.

A change you understand

Ask for something, watch the files change, and know exactly what happened and why.

The confidence to undo anything

Throw away what it just did and get back to where you were, no harm done.

A habit that avoids messes

A plan you can read and argue with, before a single line of code gets written.

How it sticks

A workshop designed for lasting impact

  1. Discover

You see the actual gap - not clever prompting, but giving Claude your context and your own material to work on.

  2. Build

Set up around your own work, and running on it before the session is half over.

  3. Trust

The two places Claude will mislead you, caught in seconds - so using it well and using it safely become one habit.

  4. Compound

Three of your own jobs, packaged up to rerun next week, without starting from a blank chat.

About this session

Everyone says you should be using it. Nobody says how to start

There is a particular kind of frustration reserved for Claude Code. Everyone around you says it has changed how they work. You installed it once, opened a terminal, typed something, got a wall of text back, and quietly closed the window. Nobody was rude about it - nobody explained it either.

The problem is that the good introductions are written for people who already work in a terminal all day. They start three steps past where most people actually are, and they skip the two things that would make the whole thing feel safe: how to see what it just did, and how to undo it.

So that’s where this afternoon spends its time. We install it together, on both platforms, and nobody moves on until every screen has it working. We make a real change to a real project and then read it properly - what changed, why, whether you’d have done it that way. And we learn to throw all of it away cleanly, early, because being able to undo is what makes people willing to be bold.

After that the two habits that matter: getting a plan you can argue with before any code gets written, and giving Claude the standing context about your project so you stop re-explaining it every time. Then an honest block on it going wrong - what a wrong path looks like early, and what to do about it.

It’s deliberately small. When the install fails on your machine and not on anyone else’s, somebody needs to look at your actual screen - which is the whole reason to do this live rather than watching a video at 1.5×.

This is for you if…

  • You keep hearing about Claude Code and haven't got past installing it
  • You work near code - analyst, designer, PM, founder, junior engineer
  • You've got a project you'd like to change, or would like one
  • You'd rather build one habit properly than watch ten things demoed

Probably not, if…

  • You already use Claude Code daily - this will be slow, and the advanced session is coming
  • You want to leave with a finished app on the internet - that's Claude for App Builders
  • You can't install software on your laptop
  • You want a comparison of AI coding tools before choosing one

What happens next

  1. Your ticket arrives in your inbox

It has your joining details, your receipt and a calendar invite, ready to add straight away.

  2. You get a bespoke setup guide

Everything installed and ready before the day, so no session time is lost to downloads. You and your fellow students start straight on real work.

  3. The workshop itself

Our instructors show you how to use Claude, drawn from their own experience in industry. Then you do the real work, and leave with workflows you can use the very next morning.

Questions people actually ask

Yes, and a good half of the room usually isn't. Claude Code is a tool for changing files with instructions, and plenty of the most useful things it does have nothing to do with shipping software. You do need to be willing to look at a terminal without flinching.

This one teaches the tool: install it, drive it, understand what it did, undo it. App Builders takes a single idea all the way to a live URL with logins on it. This is the foundation; that is the project. Either order works, but this one first is gentler.

No. Bring one if you have it - it's more useful when the code is yours - and if you don't, we'll set you up with something real in the first twenty minutes.

Both, covered side by side, including the couple of steps that differ and the two that reliably go wrong. You need to be able to install software on the laptop you bring.

Not in a way that lasts, and there's a whole block on exactly this. The undo skills come early on purpose - knowing you can throw everything away cleanly is what makes people willing to actually try things.

Yes - a Pro plan covers everything we build. Claude Code uses more than a chat conversation does, and the free tier will stop you partway through the afternoon.

A laptop you can install on, a Claude account, and a project if you've got one. That's it - we do the installing together rather than expecting it done in advance.

Yes, and it's a sensible way to get a whole team past the starting line at once rather than one person evangelising to four who never installed it. Choose how many seats you need at checkout.

Capped at 24, and we don't stretch it. An install that fails needs someone to look at your actual screen, which doesn't happen in a big room.

Bring the laptop and the project you've been meaning to tidy up

Three hours, a small group, and Claude Code running on your own machine by the end of the first half hour. Change your mind? Cancel up to 21 days before and we'll refund you in full.
